Hello W2D2 participating teachers,
There is a lot to read…and this Memo 2 is a day late. Ken had an unavoidable delay and offers his apologies. Anyway, let’s go…
If this Memo has come to you by direct email, then this is confirmation of your registration. Our moderators are in Cc – moderators, this is for you as well.
Here is the latest information:
- We are just about two weeks from the big day!
- Ready to analyze data and tabulate results? We
have the tools on the W2D2 Homepage:
-
- Students can tabulate their results in the Tally
Sheet. Please print these out for them.
- You can make a class histogram on your whiteboard, using post-it,
notes, or, again on the Homepage,
Local Google Sheet 2024.
-
It’s here: Teachers add the class results to the
Worldwide Google Sheet 2024, now available.
- If you are new to W2D2, you might want to take a look at our previous
Memos (0 and 1) on the W2D2 website near the bottom of
the Home page under “Messages for group leaders…”.
- Registration closes on Monday 4th November and we should have
the schedule ready by Wednesday 6th November. It will appear in the Videoconferences page, which will replace the Registration page at that point. The schedule will not be perfect, so
please find your videoconference slot to check that it works for you…and get back to us if you want an adjustment.
- In the meantime, if you are interested in how videoconferences go and
what is in them, take a look at the Videoconference Plan below.
- Please remember that we have resources to help you and your students to
understand World Wide Data Day. Most are on the W2D2 Homepage. Scroll down and
look under Resources. Beneath that, you will find an archive of Memos, including this one. “Intro” and “How to” videos and text are on the ATLAS and CMS pages. Please use
them!
-
Moderators, to understand what the students know and have done, we suggest you watch the same screencasts. By the way, we can always use a few more moderators, so if you know someone who might want to jump in, please ask them to send an email to kcecire@nd.edu.
- More questions? We will have Q&A sessions for moderators and teachers
15:00-16:00 UTC and 22:00-23:00 UTC on Thursday 7th November via Zoom. (To convert to your time zone, try the timeanddate Time Zone
Converter.) The Zoom link is on the Q&A Indico page. Can’t make it? The
meetings will be recorded. Please note: if you join the meeting you are consenting to the recording and its availability on the web.
- Students and teachers sometimes ask about the motivation and meaning of
the F measurement. For an insight, please check Ken’s interview with
moderator Andrea Gozzelino about that measurement and share it with your students.
- As you know, our main videoconference client for W2D2 is Zoom. If you
cannot use Zoom, please let us know. We’ll work something out.
- We currently have 48 separate registrations for World Wide Data Day. Please let your colleagues know that they can still register until this coming Monday!
- The next Memo is scheduled for Wednesday 6th November.
Even more questions? Send them!
All the best,
Shane and Ken
